Breaking The Fourth Wall
The very notion of the RSPCV should say all there is to be said. You didn't click on this site to donate to vegetable cruelty causes, you clicked because you thought this 'woke' shit can't be for real. Even if it was though, far more plants are grown to feed the over 70 billion land animals we needlessly breed and slaughter each year than if we just ate the plants themselves, so the message would be the same - which you can read more about in our Vegetable Cruelty Prevention Guide!
When we think 'plants are alive too' to justify our consumption of animals and their products, we either haven't really thought it through, or we know deep down that it's not really true and valid. If you were in a burning house and you saw a Spinach plant and a Pig and you could only save one, you know you're runnin' outta there with Percy.
Most of us understand that animals experience pleasure and pain, and that like us they value their freedom and will to live, we just conveniently never have to give it much thought as the systems are in place precisely for the majority of us not to have to think about it much.
We're positively reinforced with phrases like 'free range', 'farm fresh', 'high welfare', 'humanely raised', 'grass fed', 'happy cows make happy milk', 'Red Tractor Approved', among countless others. The ideals that these phrases invoke in us are played on by the industry marketers, knowing that we'll attribute what those phrases mean to us in our mental image of what happens on farms, while the reality of what these animals go through is kept behind doors and as far away as possible.
The vast majority of farmed animals are grown in factory farms. Bred into existence in miserable conditions, with their short lives already planned out - right up to their brutal encounter with a bolt gun or gas chamber.
If you're willing to take the blinders off for a moment and take in some new information that may deeply challenge your long held and rarely challenged point of view, the videos and resources below are ones we highly recommend. What have you got to lose? If you disagree, you'll be more informed and more comfortable that the actions you're taking are in line with your beliefs. However, we all know the reason that we don't like to open our eyes to this sort of thing is because we know we wont like what we see.
"Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."
